Welcome to Whelp Help Arizona!

Serving Phoenix and Surrounding Cities

We are a newly formed service to assist you to safely bring your highly valued, carefully bred puppies into the world.  You've traveled far and wide to get your show dog their titles and then studied pedigrees too numberous to count to select the stud that best matches the qualities of your bitch and the breed standard.  You've made the decision to breed but are concerned about the problems that could arise during the delivery.  Yes, dogs have delivered without human intervention for thousands of years and the species still is around and flourishing.  But how many pups have died during this process?  All pups are worth the efforts that we can apply with the skills and knowledge that we have.  What about that "runt" that turned out to be a legend of his breed?  That pup was worth saving.  And the first time mother that doesn't know that she only has a few minutes to get that puppy out of the bag and get him breathing?

I decided to form this service after helping out a friend with her first litter (and she's one of many!).  We had 8 fat, healthy puppies and thought we were done.  After an hour of rest, we were weighing and measuring the pups when we had a sudden, totally unexpected delivery of yet another pup.  This puppy had no heart rate, respiratory effort or tone.  It was dead.  But with 8 years of delivering human babies in a high risk obstetrics department as an RN with Neonatal Resuscitation Certification that was well used, I used that knowledge and those skills to do what I knew I was possible.  I resuscitated that puppy.  The owner of the mother swears that if I wasn't there, that puppy would not be here today.  Her name is Lucky and she's living the good life on a ranch in Nevada because I was there that night.

I've delivered approximately 100 humans solo in those 8 years in the hospital and assisted in the delivery of probably 4000 others.  I've taught residents how to do deliveries on those first frightful weeks of first year residency when the Chief Resident or Attending Physician was just not going to make it.  Those are days that I will never forget and moving to the breeding and whelping of dogs seemed to be a very easy transition.  While dogs and people are physiologically different, they are very much the same in many aspects.  Oxygen is needed immediately after they are born, preferrably in the first 3 minutes of life even though mother nature has provided the ability for a puppy to go an amount of time a bit longer without oxygen.  But what results does that have on the puppy in the future?  Are these pups the ones that are harder to train?  Are they the ones with behavioral problems?  We don't know, but based on the fact that the brain requires oxygen to survive and lack of oxygen will lead to brain death, it's a probability that these may have been the pups that had a slow start by their mothers.

What I offer is assistance to your bitch during her delivery.  I ensure that the puppies are getting that oxygen as soon as possible and can act quickly to ensure that there is the most minimal lack of oxygen to their delicate brains.  A week prior to the bitch's due date, I count on you to monitor her temperature.  When the temperature drops below 99 degrees F and stays there, we know that pups will be on the way in 24 hours.  85% of mothers will let you know that whelping is hours away by this observation.  All you have to do is take the temperatures and report to me the results and mothers behaviors.  When you want me there, I'm just a phone call away.  I'm on call 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.  In case of emergencies, I will assist you to take the dog to your closest emergency animal hospital for immediate care.  While assisting your delivery, there is no guarantee of a good outcome, just the possibility of a better one.  Some things are just beyond anyone's control but having a knowledgable and experienced assistant can mean a better outcome.  The pup that is saved could be the very next legend.
